Emmanuela grew up in rural northern Kenya and was able to come to the University of Toronto courtesy of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

Judith was one of the first women to earn a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Toronto, and gave $1 million to establish two Pearson scholarships, in her name and her late husband’s.
